Civic Museum “City of Cannara”

The museum, housed inside the former Salesian convent, was inaugurated in 2009 and is dedicated to the history of Cannara and its territory.
Its rooms host a significant collection of archaeological materials from the excavations of Urvinum Hortense, an ancient settlement from the 3rd century Before Christ that became a Roman municipality in the 1st century Before Christ, documenting the site's occupation from the pre-Roman to the late medieval period.

The museum also features the art collections of the Pinacoteca, with works by Marcantonio Grecchi, Dono Doni, and Francesco Longhi.
One room is dedicated to historic musical instruments belonging to the city band, founded in 1843 and known today as the "F. Morlacchi" Musical Ensemble of Cannara.

The most prestigious artifact is the polychrome mosaic from the thermal baths of Urvinum Hortense, dating between the 1st and 2nd century Anno Domini-the largest discovery from the ancient Roman municipality.
The mosaic decorated the floor of one of the baths, specifically the frigidarium. The background consists of white tesserae with a border of red and black tesserae.
The central scene depicts an exotic Nile landscape, recognizable by its lush vegetation and the presence of animals such as hippos, snakes, ibises, and cranes, engaged in combat with pygmies-a people who, according to ancient legends, inhabited the remote regions of Egypt.
