San Francesco Museum Complex

San Francesco Museum Complex
The ties between art and history in Montefalco intertwine in this location, just a few steps from the central piazza. The San Francesco Museum Complex is a privileged key to understanding a territory rich in art, history, and nature, and a tool capable of connecting tradition and contemporary life. It is an authentic and precious gem, thanks to the quality of the materials that make up the collection and the monumental structure of the complex.
The preserved pictorial decoration is admirable, bearing witness to Renaissance painting from the 15th and 16th centuries, and is signed by great artists, first and foremost Benozzo Gozzoli and Pietro Perugino.
The museum itinerary then unfolds through the historic spaces of the annexed Franciscan convent: the art gallery (pinacoteca), the church, the archaeological section, the crypt with the ancient Franciscan cellars, and the spaces dedicated to contemporary art exhibitions.
